Bob Lutz, who heads General Motors's global vehicle development announced in Geneva, Switzerland, last week that the GTO is not dead. It will return to production along with a new Camaro built on their global Zeta platform. The Camaro concept car was unveiled at the recent Detroit Auto Show,
Lutz gave a timetable for the rollout of the new hot rods for of the end of 2008 as a 2009 model and also hinted there would be an even higher horsepower version of the Corvette coming. The announcement would clearly put GM back in the performance car market and provide a direct “muscle car” link to today’s Pro Stockers instead of using cars originally fit with 4-cylinder power like the Cobalt.
