i am not 100% sure but i do believe an "I" beam rod is stronger
due to the fact that an "H" beam has an oil hole going thru the center to oil the pin.
of course i responded to this post before i noticed you had a link on here
and it pretty much says the same thing
but that was my decision when selecting oliver "I" beams for my motor or eagle(because they were cheaper and were H beam)
of course i chose the oliver, a little more but to me well worth the extra expense

so from what you are stating is that I-beam rods are underrated.
but if you read all the advertising from many company's they will state the a I-beam are only rated to 800 or less.
then they have the H-beam rods rated with a ARP rod bolt upgrade to 1000+.
are they misleading the buyer or do they know something we don't?

Now your talkin about Oliver rods, they are bad ass.I think it all depends on the company you go with. Not all I beams are alike and h beam likewise.Do your homework, and go with what fits your needs.Cant go wrong with Oliver:cool:

i'm guessing here, but i would have to say the "h" beam you are talking about that handle 1000+hp would have to be a good billet rod, or a better grade of steel:dunno:
but all i can think about this subject icon, is there must be a good reason why oliver and crower make "I" beam rods. and if you go to their website the kind of beat around the bush and say "I" beams are better....because it's what they mostly sell

a word or two from oliver
The OLIVER I-beam connecting rod features an exclusive "Parabolic Beam" design that reduces beam stress and delivers the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any connecting rod currently available.
http://www.crower.com/misc/m_cat.shtml
then click on page 157-172 in there catalog and you will notice
they are all "I" beam rods
this has always been a debate and i really can't say myself which is better
but my personal preference would and will always be an "I" beam rod

don't chrome-moly fatigue and break do to vibration/stress?
if so,doesn't that allow the rods to give out without any warning?
the rods that i have read about being 1000hp+ h-beam rods are Scat w/arp 2000 bolt upgrade.
thanks for the reading material

got a buddy that always runs i-beam in every motor we've ever built, runs his moters (around in a circle) at about 9,000 rpm all night long, this just might be luck but just recently sold tach and just holds it to the floor now, i've heard the moter at 9grand and now, if i had to guess at some points in the race he's hit at least 10,000 rpm more than a few times (oliver I beam rods 6.00" 406ci)
fkn crazy huh?
well, I would speculate that the I beam would be stronger in regards to bending, but H would be better due to tension. which force is greater in the motor, i would assume tension and compression. another way to look at it is that I"M a Mutha Fuckin P I M P.. sorry just had to throw that in there.
But due to weight issues, I feel the I beam is the better design.
