View Full Version : Chassis Certification
What are some of the points looked at in the process of certifying a chassis. Is it any more detailed that just making sure you followed the appropriate rule book during construction?
Is the track having any more Certificaiton days this year?
Can I schedule an appointment with the track to have this done?
Is there a local shop that does this some where?
Another question is how do you connect the main hoop support braces to the subframe on a third gen F-body? To my knowledge, there isn't really one in the area where the rear seats attach.

For basic 9.99 NHRA chassis cert they check wall thickness of the pipe, proper location & pipe size. On the last question it would be hard to answer without seeing it. Havent done an 3rd gen F-body
I think I found the answer to the subframe question.. Have a couple more...
I have not seen the 2006 IHRA rule book, but I picked up a 2006 NHRA rule book. Is it true the NHRA cage specs meet or exceed the specs in the IHRA book?
What is the deal with having a seat that can be bolted to the floor and the cage behind the seat. I have seen the Polycarbonate seats that have the two threaded inserts for this, but NHRA rulebooks actually describe these seats as "Accessory" seats. WTF does that me. sounds like toys to me... They also list a requirement of only 1 bolt, so does that mean i can modify a seat that doesn't have the threads in the back by drill holes and such?

I dont have a 2006 book..in fact none of my NHRA books are in reach. but the seat has to be bolted to the floor & to the horizontal cross bar behind the seat about shoulder high. I think you only have to have 1 bolt holding it in the back. The kirky aluminum seats dont come with any provisions for mounting so you have to drill ALL the holes so i think you would be fine.
