Hey everone, got a ? about a starting issue. I have a Chevy 350 with about 13-1 compresion. Seems like it always take alot of cranking to get my car started. Do i need an start retard to cure this problem when starting. Or what do most racers with high compresion motors use. Please help. Thanks.

I'd have to agree but also 13.1 isnt very high compression although its not stock either. Do you have a high torque starter:dunno: and I would ck the plugs after the car has been driven/raced to see if the plugs are black you could be too rich from too much fuel and it could be killing the plugs:yup:

i agree, you might also check all the spark plug wires to see if they are still good. but it sounds like it's not getting enough spark

i agree with the suggestions above, but as far as needing a start retard, where and what is your timing ? where as in base timing , and what as in advance curve like mechanical, vacuum or just locked out , a lot of different racers i've seen use different things.

I have mine locked out, because aI for the retard box for nitrous. I find it easier to let the retard box pull timing out of the car (vs moving the distributor, whenever I wanted to spray.)
Sounds like you just need to put the lighter springs in your distrubtor, fire it up, bring your rpm's up to 3000, and set your timing at 36 deg. That should be a good starting point. :yup:
