It is always nice to find new things to discuss...
Aquick68 and myself have been talking back and forth about a car I found for sale on racing junk.....
My comment is that it is a 498 shifted at 6,800 (in my eyes means it can't be that hero of a piece) even at 2800 lbs that a 9.50 isn't bad out of it.... On Motor....

Alright PK.... This is not a Ford vs Chevy thing.... It could be a fucking Falcon for all I care....
That's not the topic....
If you think it is slow vote that way and make a logical explanation about your thoughts.....

No it is not that of the month for me..... Just trying to have a discussion....
 :doob:
YES it needs to be way faster. small blocks can power a 2800# car to that time no problem (with about 7500 rpm) w/o a power adder. car should be on juice, at 7000 rpms and run 8s
GMCRACER

Using a h/p calculator it say it makes 645 to the rear wheels....
http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm
That would not be any kind of a junk yard small block..... :yup:
I agree if it were mine I'd spary the shit out of it, but I am talking about the car how it sits...
I also think it's a little slow. :yup:
My car used to run in the 9's all day long on HP with a small block. My best time being a 9.58. I don't know the actual weight of my car, but it only had a fiberglass hood, had most of the interior at the time and I myself weigh over 200 pounds. So if it didn't weigh at least 3400 pounds with me in it, I'd be very surprised. And of course this was a couple years ago. Hell, now they have LS1 motors running in the 9's. :yup:

Just out of curiosity what do you figure you had into the motor and what was the motor.... :dunno: Sounds like a pretty stout piece...
Feel free to tell me to fuck myself or take it to a p/m since this is a street racing site and all....

 Well, I surely wouldn't say the engine was mild. It was 420ci and had a stock 400 block, Callies 3.875 crank and 5.85 Eagle rods. Solid roller cam...the heads were GM 18 degree with a GM intake using an adapter for a 1050 Dominator. Most of the parts for this engine were used and I probably had a little over 5 grand into it. Plus a ton of time testing and tuning! :yup:

no i dig the whole ask the audiance thing. but if its 2800 lbs and only putting out 9.50.s something wrong. on a 15 inch tire and that light?...either thats one junk ass big block? or he cant drive worth the shit and i mean terrable driver!!!! its a nice find i dig the ride, the style, and everything and it is a deal even if the motor is junk! the trailer and roller alone is worth it.

I agree to that.... My first change would be the motor....

Yep and that would be my vote......
My guess is it is a mild bracket motor..... Easy on springs, shit like that....
To make 640+ at the wheels isn't total shit (around 750 at the flywheel)....
So to answer your question "yes I kinda agree".... For the money it is a good deal.... Then put ZYA's old motor in it and hang on!
That motor in my Camaro would be lucky to get out of the 11s.......

my personal opinion is somewhere, something isnt matched right. too big of a tire? too much gear? trans? who knows, but at 2800 lbs, that should be a mid 8's car.

man, my shit crawls! i had no idea it was so damn easy for all you guys to run 9.50's all motor! sombody give me the secret! i'd have to say that 640 hp to the wheels is pretty damn stout for 498 inches, but who am i to say? i'm still building 9.6 to 1 hydraulic cam motors.
Justa396
08-19-2006, 11:49 AM
and think about it, this is a bracket car, how fast does it need to be? and no info was given on the engine. my bet is that it has gm cast iron heads and a solid flat tappet cam, otherwise it would be a little more expensive.

 that is true, it may be a junk motor:dunno: (maybe not junk, but nothing special) i am still having a problem with it weighing 2800lbs. also(maybe he meant 3800?) all steel, that thing is huge:eek: that would explain alot:yup:

Or maybe it was purpose built.Bracket ,but less maint. and more reliability. The upgraded suspension takes the power to the pavement easier.Just my .02:dunno:

oh shoot lol the poll is all tied up!!! lol there could be a number of things that is keeping this car in the mid 9's all i was saying is that for what it is (i mean its a 2800 lb 4-link car for gods sake) it should be faster.

Should be and probably could be, but as a bracket car bein easy on power it will probably hook everywhere and run the number...

either he's babying it and it has more left in it or he has a small cam in it. I think he has more in it. :yup:
One more thing.... I know you guys feel it's light @ 2800 lbs, but it's still a box!!! :yup: If you take that motor and put it in a Mustang, you may pick-up a few tenths. If you noticed he didn't mention anything about MPH!!! That's because it's not pullin on the big end, it's fighting!!! :yup:

yeah but at 2800 lbs also remember that. thats like calling a big cube big block rear engine dragster fast with it in the low 10.s

ok, 2800 lbs. IS light, but not THAT light. a mustang can weigh that easily, and an average semi gutted street/race style car is around 3200 lbs. which would make it capable of high 9's with the same motor/combo, i wouldn't cry if my car did that, shoot a little toot of juice gets you to 8's! to bad mine is 3700 lbs.!

We'll work out a fair race....... ......... you can have the same thing you offered me.
I'll leave on Green & you leave whenever you want. You make it a fair race. :yup:

I had front suspension problems. :yup: The trunnions, bearings, and gear box needed to be replaced. The bad thing about having an AMC is, you can't run to the part store and get them. Most of the items I pick up on ebay. when dealing with ebay, you have to play waiting game!!! :pissed:
My car is actually slower now. It has the full interior, and the mufflers stay on. You have nothing to worry about. :o:
