OK, Have been pondering the answer to this.

What is the proper way to come to a stop with a reverse manual valve body? Do you drop the pedal as soon as you pass through the traps, or ride the throttle through the gears as you slow with the brakes?

Good question....

I have been leaving my shit in 3rd until I hit the turn off... That's not saying it is the right thing to do though....

I use to put it into neutral, and just use the brakes.
BUT a lil birdy told me, I should never do that!!! Because the back wheels can and may lock-up on me!!!! :yup:
SO, I guess now I'll just leave it in 3rd. until the turn off. :yup:

thanks guys.

Draggin, do you have a reverse valve body? How did you get into neutral, through 2 and 1, or does your jump from 3 to N???

You guys forgot the other part, do you just step off the gas or gradually get out of it with rpm?

i let off the gas at the end, and let the motor slow down on it's own(until turn off):yup:

without the chute on hp it takes me all of 41 to get slowed down enough to make the turnoff... needless to say I let off at the stripe.....

don't put it in neutral because the speed of the drum in the tranny multiplies or somethin to like 20,000 rpms and can explode and take your legs and maybe even that little twig dangling between your legs

FYI- 41 has the longest shutdown in the country :yup:

Memphis is long.... Bowling Green is long.... (they go into a circle track)

Indy is long.... Martin is much improved....

By far the longest shut down I have seen is Rt. 66....

The shortest I have come across was KilKare in Ohio.....

41 is not short by any means.... My car just stops for shit...

41 has the same exact amount of shutdown as 66. :yup: 3000 foot of shut down. I have been to over 100 dragstrips in this country and 1 in canada and have come to realize 41 is as safe a track as you can find for shutdown. There is noway possible to get killed at 41 if you just keep your car going straight ahead into a soft bushel of corn.
I am not saying this because I work there.

As for the tranny issue... NEVER put a freakin car in neutral! PERIOD! Let all these so called engine builders blame the tranny for there lack of machine work (Hence streching the rods? BULLSHIT). Time after time after time I see tranny's blow apart at the bigend because people put them into neutral. It does nothing but put your car and your life at risk. In the last year I have seen 6 cars spin out crossing the finsihline because they were trying to hit neutral and went right into reverse.:scared:
Keep your car in drive and let it gear down on its own. You will live alot longer with both your legs:scared: :yup:

41 is not short by anymeans.....

Frickin' old Martin was short.... That one scared me in the Camino at 138....

Oddly enough I havn't been scared at the Grove but that was in the old Nova that had good brakes and it was a light car @ 146.....

Kilkare at 110 felt short.... Byron sucks as you need to slam on the brakes or turn around on the track went 142 there getting my licence years ago...

66 must run up hill like a bitch.... On that track I need to get back in the throttle for the turn off.... Of course with my slow shit you would need to...

The mullet doesn't help you slowdown?

and...

the reason I know truly how long 41's shutdown is....due to walkin that bitch back and forth back and forth with a rice ash spreader!!!

Yes, a reverse valve body, with a B&M shifter w/ reverse lock-out.
You can squeeze the lever & go to neutral. I've got use to doing during my burnouts, to keep the carb from loading up.

Yeah, you may be right. But for me, all I need to do is, put a lil heat in the motor & clean off the slick. :yup: It's easier on the tires!!! :o:

From what they say, DON"T DO IT!!!!:nono:
Leave it in third, until the turn off, and if you need extra help stopping, get a chute!!! :yup:
