This was posted over on the NMCA web site in response to a couple people bitching about no end of the year points fund....
The answer to your question? Why no points fund? Why do we have to pay for a season ending add in the magazine? Why do you folks think it is so awesome to race for so little? I think it is the racers fault! It is not the fault of the pro media gang. You folks grin and take it, while a very few have pushed and pushed for this very thing! Too bad you all do not get on the same page together, oh well? BG
Now there is a way to stay dedicated....
I remeber running Outlaw Street until Hot Rod took it over in 1998 an moved the BIG money in... Guess what it drove all the small guys out and the turn out dropped off, for that fact it almost killed the sport.... How much did Hot Rod loose when they sold the NMCA?
No one in the fastest street car world is making money... If you are doing it, it should be for the love of the sport....
I just thought I'd share this with everyone....

Hell Joe my game plan for 2007 is.... to change nothing!
I don't know who I am trying to fool to think I can hang with the top of the X/S field....
Let alone spend the money to race all of the events....
My chassis will not cert to go fast enough anyway, once again a money issue....
Goal 2007 to get down 41 every time I make a hit on the car, and go to the closest 4 NMCA races...
Why.... For the love of the sport! :patriot:

here some questions for you.
do you pay a mebership fee?
entrance/gate fee?
was the end of yr points fund made clear at the beginning of the season or did something change?
i feel that the NMCA(and others) are making alot of money from everyone that races.from vendors to entrance.i mean come on they aren't doing it for the love.they are doing it for the money.
but the people that run the events think that they are doing racer a favor by giving them something ,they in-turn have to pay for(entrance and mebership fees).
heres an example:
ffw norwalk,oh. they have a true street class that has no less than 100( 165 this yr) cars with no purse.thats $50 a car that is pocketed.
where does the money go?

$45 per Year, $110 at the gate for a 3 day pass.... True Street does not require a membership....
ProMedia has not had an end of the year points fund ever...
There is plenty of contigency money to be made if you win or runner up... for that fact it is much more than the payouts....
Advertising, office space, full staff.... and they don't race at some of the backyard tracks that the NSCA does..... I'd imagine that costs money....
Don't get me wrong if there was NO money to be made they wouldn't be doing it, just like you would not go to work if they didn't pay you....

I know for a fact that NMCA hasn't made a freakin dime off a race N.W.O.
There might be 3 or 4 tracks in the country that make a decent amount of money. I don't think there are any but I will give you the 3 or 4 just for argument sake.
I know you don't believe me and I don't really care. I have been doing this for 6 or 7 years now "Promoting" So I know what I am talking about.

i mean fuck, they are pulling in advertisement and bring business to these tracks.

This thread was deleted..... but they did respond in another thread..... Take it for what it is worth....
Since Kevin Parent’s original question/thread about gold cards has been hijacked, I thought it would be better to post the response to Kevin’s question in a separate thread.
I have deleted the original thread as not to confuse those of you looking for an official response, having to wade through the above mentioned hijack.
In case you forgot the original question, it was: Has NMCA ever considered Gold cards?
ProMedia has never issued “Gold Cards” due to liability concerns. While many of you may be scratching your heads going “huh?” the explanation is simple. Our insurance underwriters and legal council view gold cards as a possible “enticement”. In other words, by not paying for entry, we are asking you to come race “on us”. In the event of an incident involving damage to property or personal injury, it could possibly be litigated that by offering a racer free entry to an event, the racer(s) is our “guest” and not a paying participant. Therefore it may be interpreted in a court of law that by having a select group of racers as our “guests” (read as -- since we “enticed” them to race) it could be argued that we are assuming liability for anything that may happen to him, his property, or anyone else or their property.
On the other hand, if a racer paid to race, he made an independent decision, not based on enticement, but on his willingness to compete in a dangerous sport, and by paying the entry fee, and signing the waiver, acknowledges that danger. When this is all broken down, it offers ProMedia an extra layer of protection in this ever-growing litigious society we regretfully live in.
Yes, other organizations offer Gold Cards, but unless they have specific insurance policies in place to cover this potential problem, they may be vulnerable. Larger organizations such as NHRA, which have Gold, Silver and Bronze cards issued to many of their racers, have a more inclusive insurance policy, which in turn, has a much higher premium. That premium is passed along to the racers as an “insurance surcharge” that each cardholder must pay before entry to an NHRA national event.
Thank you for your explanation and the jacket I received today is beautiful.
My other question was regarding a year-end points fund for the winner & runner-up from what I understand that was offered a few years ago. What happened to that ?
Val
NSS/#2
Valerie,
First, I'm glad you liked the jacket. Now, to the question at hand.
In this incarnation of the NMCA there has never been a points fund. Without spending the next four hours (and 50,000 words) trying to explain the history behind the entire “fastest street car” movement, I’ll try and make it simple.
In the beginning (late 80’s- early 90’s) there were jackets…only jackets. Then there were two organizations competing for racers…in the spirit of competition, one of those organizations decided to up the ante by offering a substantial points fund, forcing the other to do the same. Most of us who were involved in the sport at this time identify this now as one of (if not the) major contributor to the undermining of the grassroots appeal of our brand of drag racing. When the big money came, so did the big money racers. Granted, classes such as N/SS were not nearly as affected as others when it came to this infusion of cash (and if you were not around at the time) when one of the two organizations bought the other out, it was proposed that several classes be eliminated entirely (including N/SS). Out of this controversy, the NSCA was born and they pledged to continue those classes dropped by the “new” NMCA.
Not long after, seeing dropping numbers in terms of competitors, fans and sponsors, the two organizations soon lost the sponsors who were willing to shuck out big bucks at the end of the year. Faced with having to foot the bill on points funds themselves, both the NSCA and "old" NMCA canned the idea in an effort to bring back the grassroots racers and to preserve the bottom line. This enabled the organizations to continue offering racers a place to race, albeit without a points fund. If I recall there has not been a points fund since ’97 or ’98. However to some degree the damage was done in terms of the faster classes, the money was (and is) still being spent, and many of those original grassroots racers have never returned, although a few more are showing up again, now that there is stability in the sport.
While most of this really doesn’t affect you directly, it does have an indirect impact upon you and the other racers of your ilk.
If you will, take a look at the front page of the website and read what was just posted about the 2007 shootouts. While I realize this will not put another dime in your pocket in 2007, it illustrates that the NMCA is working towards rewarding those racers who finish well in points. For 2007 we have been able to make a huge commitment to those who race in the heads-up classes. Once we have a chance to measure the success of this shootout format with these classes, it is our intention to get a program in place to reward those of you who race in the index classes, but I cannot at this time say when that will happen.

They just re-did Super Street last year, now Outlaw 10.5... They must have done alright as they have more cars attending....
I figure you know by now.... I may joke around about the Chevy vs Ford thing.... But you can make then Fords (little motors anyway, hi PK :D ) run... Hell there all just pumps.....
I had thought for a few mins about putting a Ford in my Camaro.... A guy I know was selling one at the same time that I was putting my motor together that ran 8.20 in a stang.... Mind you that was 300lbs under X/S weight though...
I just know my father would disown me if I did something like that....
BTW- That motor (the Ford) has been burnt up 3 times since then.... I guess I am glad I stuck with what I know, just for being able to sneak up on a tune....
you may want to edit some of that out as the peanut gallery may start the public hanging.
well you dodged a major bullet when you decided against the motor, but you are right when you state they are pumps.
just some are more efficent(sp) than other.
good and bad with all.ford design on some thing are less than desirable(sp)12hr midnights work sucks i need a new job :(

they should really consider a fogger setup.that may put some real interest in the class and not beat the shit out of the motors.
alsoo think about this.these are the same people that keep screwing around with RS class and they are losing alot of cars with the constant rule changes.

we can't get anywhere with these camaros 3879 is my best so far... but i've still got PS/PW/PL so i could drop a little more i'm sure? And you were talking about your tank?? I found a actual NHRA rated cell for the 3rd gen. goes right in the same place as the stock tank, but weighs in at 12lbs, 10 gallons but is a bit pricey at about $2800:scared:
