Yea my posi was going out (last time I drove it )

Spools are cheaper than the posi unit, but with C-clip eliminators it would be about the same....

thats what I was going to tell you. And the first time you break an axle with a spool on the street(I'm guessing you have stock axles) You will be spending even more money. So just buy a decent limited slip and drive worry free.

Spools are cheaper than the posi unit, but with C-clip eliminators it would be about the same....put 9" ends on your rear and no leaky c-clip eliminators(which they always seem to do)

x2

In my old Grand Prix, I used to do some street cruising (limited to probably less than 500 miles per year) and I used a spool and Moser 31 spline axles with no problems. Street driving in that thing was basicly putting around my small town to get to the outer limits, point it in a relatively straight line and let it eat. Never tried any major corner carving with it. Also if you go the 9" ends route, brakes will be more plenifull as well as axles and brakes being less expensive.

aquick68

a 12 bolt would be better but not that much
i got a 10 bolt in my car seems to be holding up just fine :D

honestly if you plan on putting major power down just put a fab9 in it dont want to give the camaro a rash with those ford parts now

aquick68
02-16-2007, 09:26 PM
the best and maybe the only thing ford ever did right was the 9 inch

Jim Morris
02-16-2007, 09:28 PM
Your right, a 10 bolt wouldn't be bad either. I was thinking about how much money he would have to put into the one he has now compared to the 12 bolt aquick68 says is a decent price. If its a complete rear it would be cheaper.

aquick68
02-16-2007, 09:29 PM
absolute bolt in deal

Jim Morris
02-16-2007, 09:32 PM
There you go, complete ready to go. You would have atleast a grand into the 10 bolt or whatever you have to be just as good.

aquick68
02-16-2007, 09:39 PM
support cover, pro gears, axles ready to go only thing might need is u bolts if bommer fucks them up. and a tube of sealent 4 the cover im sure u want to inspect it

I don't make enough power for the 12bolt....all I need is to get both tires firing again :)

I'll replace shit as it breaks....I'll just look for an Eaton posi unit...

don't forget my chassis is still impaired ;)

Newbomb
02-16-2007, 10:21 PM
and 8.5'' 10 bolts are plenty strong enough...

Right Mac?;)

BigMac1971
02-16-2007, 10:25 PM
yeah ed 12 bolts are hard to find for 2nd gen camaros thats why i just did my 10 bolt the car is slow anyway :yup: when i start making some power i was going to go with a fab 9:yup:

newbomb should jump on it not a bad price whole rear suspension with a rear end

then all he needs is frame ties and some floor boards

Newbomb
02-16-2007, 10:27 PM
All I need is frame ties and rear tires to be driving safely!

But that damn one tire fire sure sucks......so does trying to do a burnout on the icey driveway with tore up slicks

I should have made a video!!

if you are broke stay with the 10 bolt if you have a few bucks buy that 12 bolt everyone seems to want 12 bolts in 67-69 camaros

you can build your rear end to be almost as strong as a 12 bolt for about what they are asking for that setup

my 10 bolt seems to work alright you seen the pics and video

Why don't you just freshen up your posi? Just put some new clutches in it and you won't have to set the rear gear up again. Pop it out, make sure to keep the shims in order, replace the clutches and put the pig back in with the same shims.
DONE!

spdracr
02-16-2007, 10:39 PM
wow that sounds like work
why? If he buys a new posi unit, the gear has to be removed and installed on the posi then the whole thing has to be set for backlash an shimed. THAT sounds like a lot of work, not to mention paying someone to set it, cause I'm sure Newbomb doesn't know how. Rebuilding the existing posi unit is a no brainer. This topic should be over!

Posi unit $450
Shims $30
install $225
total $705

New posi clutches $100
no brainer
